Prepositions are usually used in front of nouns or pronouns and they show the relationship between the noun or pronoun and other words in a sentence.
The most common prepositions are little and very common:
at, by, for, from, in, of, on, to, with, about, above, across, after, against, along, among, around, because of, before, behind, below, beneath, beside, between, close to, down, during, except, inside, instead of, into, like, near, off, on top of, onto, out of, outside, over, past, since, through, toward, under, until, up, upon, within, without
Prepositions are most commonly followed by a noun phrase or pronoun:
- The last time I saw him he was walking down the road.
- I’ll meet you in the cafe opposite the cinema.
- It was difficult to sleep during the flight.
- It was the worst storm since the 1980s.
Prepostion of Place
Prepositions can be used to show where something is located.
This is a list of preposition of place with their respective use.

|After||following in time, place, or order|
|At||used to show an exact position or particular place|
|Behind||at the back|
|Below||in a lower position|
|between||into the space that separates two places, people, or objects|

|close||not far in position or time|
|In front of||further forward than someone or something else|
|Inside||in or into a room, building,container, or something similar|
|Near||not far away in distance|
|Next to||people or things that are very close to each other with nothing in between|
|Outside||not inside a building|
|Under||in or to a position below or lower than something else|

These are examples of sentences using different prepositions of place.

|behind||The car park is behind the building|

|below||When flying I enjoy watching the clouds below me|

|between||The prisoner sat between the two policemen|
|between||The house is between the market and the drugstore|
|between||There are mountains between Chile and Argentina.|

|Inside||The gift is inside the box|

|Near||This building is near a subway station.|
|next to||In my English lesson I always sit next to my friend|
