English Pronunciation

-

English Pronunciation is a way in which a word or language is spoken.

Good English pronunciation is an essential part of good communication.

If you don’t have a clear English pronunciation, other people may not understand what you’re saying.

Mistakes in pronunciation can cause major misunderstandings.

What are Phonemes?

Phonemes are the different sounds within a language.

Phonemes are divided into three categories:

  • Vowel Sounds
  • Consonant Sounds.
  • Diphthongs

All 43 Sounds in English together can be easily represented in a chart, that chart is called The International Phonetic Alphabet which is an alphabetic system of phonetic notation.

Additional to The British Council  Interactive Phonemic Chart, you can download a poster of each symbol found in it.

The posters are in Portable Document Format (pdf), and each poster comes with examples.
