Present Perfect questions are a good way to have interesting conversations in the ESL classroom about a wide variety of topics.

The most common present perfect question starts with the phrase: “Have you Ever”

For examples:

What’s the Present Perfect?

Let’s by defining what the present Perfect is:

The form of the verb used for actions or events that have been completed or have happened in a period of time up to now:

Examples of the affirmative and negative present perfect sentences are:

  • I have played Soccer before
  • She has done her job
  • We have rented three hotel rooms
  • I haven’t called my mom
  • She hasn’t made her contribution

What are Present Perfect Questions?

There are two type of questions that you can make with the present perfect:

  • Closed Questions
  • Open Questions

Closed questions are questions that you can answer with a yes or no. In the case of the open questions you need to provide the information which has been requested.
