Lesson Plan: How to Paraphrase Information in English

Published on May 20, 2025

Paraphrasing is the process of restating someone else’s ideas or information in your own words while keeping the original meaning intact.

There are many paraphrasing techniques but because of time constraints we are going to focus on three of those techniques.

Use Synonyms

Replace words with their synonyms while keeping the sentence structure similar.
Example:
Original: The presentation was extremely interesting.
Paraphrased: The presentation was very engaging.

Change the Voice

Switching between active and passive voice can help paraphrase effectively.
Example:
Original: The manager reviewed the proposal.
Paraphrased: The proposal was reviewed by the manager.

Use Opposites

Replace words with their synonyms while keeping the sentence structure similar.
Example:
Original: He is always late.
Paraphrased: He is never on time.

Create a similar sentence

Replace
Example:
Original: He makes great contributions to the project.
Paraphrased: He plays an important role in the project
