Lesson Plan: Future Plans

During this lesson, you will learn how to make sentences and questions about the future.

There are plenty of ways to talk about the future, depending on the (1) tone, (2) level of certainty, and (3) context you want to convey.

Let’s get started


Pre-Task #1: Grammar Focus (30 mins)

Task 1A

Let’s learn the different structures to speak about the future

With those structures, we can create:

#1I will start a new major
#2I am going to start a new major
#3I am starting a new major next year

We could use also:

#4We might start a new major
#5I hope to start a new major
#6My goal is to start a new major
#7I plan to start a new major
#8I would like to start a new major
#9I want to start a new major
#10I could start a new major

Task 1B

Let’s read some sentences with plans about the future

Instructions:

  1. Make pairs
  2. Read the sentences about the future for 10 minutes
  3. Make sure that you understand (1) The Grammar (2) The Vocabulary and (3) The Pronunciation

Let’s speak a bit about our plans

Instructions:

  1. Write four great plans for your future.
  2. Be ready to speak with your classmates during ten minutes.

Pre-Task #3: Reading Task (30 mins)

Task 3A

Let’s make some predictions

Instructions

  1. Make pairs or groups of three.
  2. Read about the life of Anna.
  3. Make 6 Predictions about she might do during her three-week off.
  4. Base those predictions on who she is and what she likes.
  5. You can use “since” to tell me who she is and what she likes and the make the prediction

For example:

  • Since she loves films, she might get a Netflix subscription for the holidays”
Anna – Software Engineer

Anna is 24 years old, she is a very adventurous woman, she doesn’t like to stay at home when she has time off.

She and her friends are into extreme sports

She finished her major in information technologies and she works from home.

She likes learning languages, technologies and frameworks related to web design.

She is not married and she doesn’t have any children. She shares a small apartment with his only brother.

Her parents moved out of Costa Rica a while ago. She usually visits them for Christmas

In this task, you will write sentences about the future

Instructions

  1. Write 5 sentences about what you like (15 mins)
  2. Use the connector “so” or since to join the ideas
  3. Write ideas about what you will do if time and money wouldn’t be an obstacle
  4. 3 sentences must be about personal desires
  5. 2 sentences must be about your professional and academic growth.

Example

  1. I like electronic music so I will probably attend a music festival next week (personal)
  2. I like learning English so I might spend some time in England next summer (Professional & Academic)

  1. Since I like electronic music, I will probably attend a music festival next week (personal)
  2. Since I like learning English, I might spend some time in England next summer (Professional & Academic)

Instructions

  1. You will be provided with specific instructions about what to write.
  2. Write what you have been requested.
  3. When you are done with the assignment, take a picture of your it.
  4. Upload it to the virtual campus before leaving the room.
