We use “doesn’t” (a contraction of “does not”) in negative sentences with singular third-person subjects (he, she, it)

  • He doesn’t like chocolate.
  • She doesn’t work on weekends.
  • It doesn’t look good.

We use “don’t” (a contraction of “do not”) in negative sentences with subjects like I, you, we, and they

  • I don’t understand what you mean.
  • You don’t need to bring anything.
  • We don’t go to the gym on Sundays.
  • They don’t like spicy food.
