“Instead” is used to show a contrast between two actions or choices, indicating that one thing was done or chosen in place of another.

You contrast the original plan with reality

  • “I didn’t go to the gym; I went for a run instead.”

Write the past form of the verb in the parenthesis

1. She didn’t drink coffee; she (drink) tea instead.

2. I didn’t read a book; I (write) a story instead.

3. They didn’t visit the museum; they (go) to the beach instead.

4. He didn’t drive to work; he (ride) his bike instead.

5. We didn’t go out for dinner; we (eat) at home instead.

6. She didn’t buy a phone; she (buy) a tablet instead.

7. I didn’t take a taxi; I (take) a bus instead.
