Too and Enough: Difference and Exercises

Today we are going to learn how to use too and enough in sentences and with different parts of the speech.

Too is used before adjectives and adverbs to mean ‘more than is allowed, necessary or possible and Enough is used as much as or more than is wanted

Here are some examples:

  • I don’t have enough sugar. Let’s go to the supermarket.
  • I haven’t got enough time.
  • You’re not good enough!
  • You’re driving too slowly!
  • I’m too hungry to concentrate!
  • He’s too old to drive.

How to use Enough

We can use enough with different parts of speech such as adverb, enough and adjective

Adverb + Enough

In these sentences, you can see how we place an adverb with the word Enough

  1. I have been working hard enough
  2. You haven’t been studying hard enough
  3. You don’t eat healthily enough.
  4. They didn’t react quickly enough
  5. She didn’t react fast enough

Enough + Noun

In these sentences you can see how that we place a noun after the word enough

  1. I have enough time to finish my work
  2. Do you have enough money to afford a new car?
  3. I don’t have enough confidence to talk to her
  4. Are there enough eggs to make an omelette?

Adjective + Enough

We use too for different reasons:

  1. Give reasons you don’t want to do things. (  I can’t help you, it was too early)
  2. Make complaints (The food was too dry)
