Intensifiers are words, especially an adverb or adjective, that has little meaning itself but is used to add force to another adjective, verb, or adverb

Mitigators

Mitigators are the opposite of intensifiers  and they make an adjective less strong.

The following are all examples of mitigators:

  1. Fairly: her hair is fairly short
  2. Fairly: The runner performed fairly well.
  3. Rather: By the end of the day we were rather tired.
  4. Quiet: The Food was quite bad
  5. Pretty: I can jump pretty high for my height
  6. A bit: He thought that the parade was just a bit too long
