La voz pasiva en inglés es una estructura gramatical en la que el objeto de una acción pasa a ser el sujeto de la oración.

“Mike has stolen my bike” es una oración activa con el presente perfecto en Inglés y que se puede analizar de la siguiente manera.

Objeto Directomy bike

Esa oración se convierte en oración pasiva y queda de la siguiente manera:

PassiveMy Bike has been stolen by mike

Como puedes ver el objeto de la oración pasa a ser el sujeto.

El uso de la voz pasiva puede ser útil en situaciones en las que el actor es desconocido o o es importante para la oración.

Cuando Usar la Voz Pasiva en Inglés

Usamos la voz pasiva cuando queremos cambiar el foco de atención del agente al receptor de la acción.

  • 24 people were killed by the flood
  • Some teenagers were rescued by the local police

Usamos la voz pasiva cuando no sabemos quién está realizando la acción o si la identidad del agente no es importante.

  • My Bike has been stolen / Mi bicicleta ha sido robada
  • My computer has been fixed / Mi computadora ha sido arreglada

Usamos la voz pasiva con un agente generalizado; you, one, we, people, everybody etc

  • Smartphones are used for many different things.
  • Crimes are committed every day.
  • Dogs are rescued every day in different countries.

Usamos la voz pasiva cuando la identidad del agente es obvia. En este caso, el agente suele omitirse en la oración pasiva.

  • The murderer has been arrested.
  • The cake was baked

Usamos la voz pasiva cuando no queremos mencionar al agente porque queremos evitar nombrar a la persona específica responsable de la acción.

Simple Present Passive

Present Continuous Passive

Active Voice:
They are building a new bridge.

Shakespeare wrote Hamlet.

Nota: Usa “by” seguido del agente cuando es importante mencionar quién realiza la acción.

Passive Without Agent

Active Voice:
Someone broke the window.
Passive Voice:
The window was broken.
Nota: Omite el agente cuando es desconocido, obvio o no importante.
