Around the Web: Rap Genious

I usually  tell my students to listen the music that they like in English  , some of them ask questions about words of sentences they check in the lyrics  , I answer most of them but  some songs are kind of complicated   such as Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z.

So what happens if  a student asks you about the first two lines of the song, well  you can say  that’s too hard  or  just listen other type of music  which is alright or you can tell him or her  to  find the song in

These are  first two sentences of the  Empire State of Mind Lyrics

  • Yeah I’m out that Brooklyn, now I’m down in TriBeCa
  • Right next to Deniro, but I’ll be hood forever

In the  first  two sentences , I can think of these questions.

  1. What does  he mean by  I’m out of that Brooklyn
  2. What’s Tribeca?
  3. What does Deniro have to do with this?
  4. What’s hood?

Rap Genious has the answers

Jay Z Empire State of Mind

So take some time  to find and understand more about your favorite rap  songs in
